Usage NotesREDI may be manipulated by controls on the following panels: Map, Locate, Report, and Legend. The Map panel offers controls devoted to the appearance and navigation of the map. The Locate panel accepts input to search for a specific Assessor’s Parcel Number or an address. Information about individual parcels or summarized demographics of a searched area can be obtained on the Report panel, while the Legend panel simply displays the map legend.Detailed descriptions of the controls on each panel may be found below, followed by a few tips for using the REDI system. Map Panel
Reference LayersThese layers help orient the viewer geographically. Any combination of layers may be active at a given time. Because of their inherent detail and complexity, some reference layers will not display until a scale threshold is gained. For more information, see the Reference Layer section of the Map Layer Notes page. To toggle the layers, check on or off any of the reference layers and click the Refresh Map button. Thematic LayersThe following thematic layers: public land ownership, existing land use, and planned land use are the main data layers for the map. The employment lands thematic layer, which shows the status of land designated for industrial development, will be included in a future release of REDI. For more information, see the Thematic Layer section of the Map Layer Notes page. Any one of these thematic layers may be viewable by clicking the corresponding option under the Thematic Layers section of the Maping tab and clicking the Refresh Map button. When no thematic layer is desired, perhaps to isolate one or more reference layers, the None option may be selected. Base MapTo change the map to apply different base map layers, select None, Terrain, or Photo as the base map layer and click the Refresh Map button.Locate PanelAPNTo zoom the map to a specific land parcel in the Region, enter the 10 digit Assessor's Parcel Number (APN) and click the Find button.AddressTo locate an address, enter an address and select a city and click the Find button. To clear the selections, click the Clear Selection button.Inquiry PanelThis panel provides filter selections to perform data analysis with the Employment or Residential Lands Inventory. Select the Employment Lands or Residential Lands thematic layer from the Mapping tab. Then filter by specific market status, distance to the nearest airport, railroad, acreage, and specific city or plan area. You can check on "Zoom to matches" to zoom to all the maximum extent of parcels that match your filter criteria. Click the "Show report of matches" to view a summary report of the number of sites with the acreage that match the filter criteria. Report PanelParcel InformationTo get information about a specific parcel, check on the Parcels reference layer from the Mapping panel, then use the Zoom In tool to zoom to an area. Hint: since the parcels layer only displays at a scale threshold of 1"=24,000 feet, draw out a small rectangle with the Zoom In tool to get a much bigger zoom in (10x). Once the parcels are visible, select the Parcel information report from the Report panel and click any parcel on the map. A separate window will pop up to show a report of parcel information.Statistical SummaryTo get demographic information for an area around any point on the map, select this report option. Then choose a distance to use as a radius. Set the origin for the radial search by clicking on the map. REDI will return a statistical summary for the area within the specified distance in a separate window. You may select an option to have the map either zoom automatically to the area defined or to have the map retain its current extent.REDI bases its statistical summaries on small geographic areas called SGRAs (SANDAG Geographic Reference Areas). When a radius and a search center are sent to REDI, data are retrieved and tabulated for all SGRA centroids within the search radius. So the methodology is an all-or-nothing approach that does not rely on data proportioning at all. Except in the East County where SGRAs are larger, the small size of SGRAs in the urban areas generally yield reasonable approximations of circular areas. Tips for Using REDI
